Overcoming Suicidal and Murderous Tendencies

I have been seeing a lot of murder-suicides and suicides lately…. Made me think and pray. I want to share some stuff with you that has been revealed to me. So many of us have had or still have murderous or suicidal tendencies. Those of us who don’t are only one step away. Some of you are saying that you love yourself too much to kill yourself. Well, let me get at you here. The Bible tells us that the wages of sin is death and yet we sin daily. Sounds suicidal to me. To inflict such stuff on ourselves… How many of us have done or said things that either killed someone’s spirit, their relationships, their family, their chances of promotion, or advancement? Sounds like murder to me. I over the years have had to walk away from places, people and things which proved to be deadly to my spiritual life, my marriage, my family and my peace. It took prayer, being honest with myself and a desire to simply LIVE… Wasn’t always easy.. I had relapses from time to time but I realized that I needed God’s help and had to make conscious decisions to listen, obey and never think that I had anything whipped on my own. Look, I have an uncle who I am very close to. I used to brag and tell people that he is an “EX”-drug addict. He had to correct me. He said, “Neph, though I have been clean and sober for a while now, I AM an addict. I cannot go around drugs or the places that sell drugs. I won’t take narcotics for pain when I go to the dentist. I know me..” What he has done is closed the gap between he and God, placed himself around folks who will encourage him and not expose him to drugs. In my life I had to cut people off, certain behaviors off, and not be so naïve and think that “I am good.” I realized that I was showing suicidal behavior by ignoring the dangers around me and entertaining such relationships and behaviors. I had to realize that being the priest of my home, I was showing murderous behaviors by not protecting my family.. I made a sound decision to lean on God and do what I need to at all costs. I am helping someone today.. Not sure who you are. Now let me take you a step further. NEVER think that the enemy will go on vacation. He is crafty. He will throw your past in your face. Do it in a sneaky way. He will test your resolve over and over again. He wants you to act out of character or give in to the pressures of him showing up. He will constantly remind you of your past and recent failures. As I look over some of the recent suicides, people got caught up in their current situation or a recent failure which presented itself as too much or gave them a feeling of low self esteem or unworthiness. This is when we must go to God’s WORD… Here are a few:

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you

Jeremiah 15:11 The LORD said, "Surely I will deliver you for a good purpose; surely I will make your enemies plead with you in times of disaster and times of distress

Jeremiah 15:19 Therefore this is what the LORD says: "If you repent, I will restore you that you may serve me; if you utter worthy, not worthless, words, you will be my spokesman. Let this people turn to you, but you must not turn to them.

Instead of allowing negative thoughts and ideas to enter your mind, try trusting God and thinking on these things. This will kill any negative thoughts and ideas that you may have.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
