Sticking It Out

I was in the book of Hebrews today. Chapter 10. Was thinking on how excited I get when I think of the things that I know God has for me. I also thought of how I sometimes get tired along the way. How many times that I thought of quitting. Tired of dealing with certain people.. Certain issues.. Seeing the same problems popping up. Some of you may have felt tired of trying to live right when you see folks living foul that seem to have it all. Don't believe the hype. I thought of friends that I have that started on the Christian journey.. Some using their gifts and talents in ministry and because of challenges so many of them just quit. Some preferred the fast cash and extra attention of doing secular music. Others expected life to all of the sudden to become easy and because it didn't, they decided that living Holy just wasn't worth it. Yet in the beginning they were so enthused by some vision of a promised land given by God. My daughter Alicia, like all of my kids is a good athlete. I used to like to see her run the mile. We could do a two hour plyometrics workout and she would still go out and simply smoke the mile run. She sets the goal before her and just knocks it out. But I've seen her in some of our other workouts. She'll sometimes complain, consider slacking or say that she can't go on. That is until I give her a target.. A goal to reach before finishing and she'll kick it into a new gear and get it done. Some of us have allowed stuff in life to block our vision of promise. We have allowed people to distract us and discourage us at times. We have let finances, joblessness, past relationships, lack of feeling respected by supervisors or peers, or loved get in the way of us enduring the walk with Christ. We must see each task, each issue, each challenge as a training session. It helps to build endurance for this race. In training, muscles are broken down to be rebuilt into stronger muscles. You may not initially be able to run a mile, but by pushing yourself more and more, your heart and lungs become stronger. You legs tire less. Ultimately your endurance increases. So many of us talk a good talk but have no heart. Not willing to build up our endurance. We need endurance to ultimately receive the promises of God. I want to be looked upon as one whose built to last. It is a necessity. Don't want to believe me? Argue with the WORD....

For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise. Hebrews 10:36
